2. The Fatal Myth of 'Chicken Wire'

Chicken wire (hexagonal poultry netting) should NEVER be used to protect a coop.

Most predators dig directly at the base of the coop wall. If they encounter resistance, they do not think to back up 2 feet and dig a long tunnel.

How to Install a 24-Inch Predator Apron (Skirt):

Step 1: Unroll 24-inch wide, 1/2-inch galvanized hardware cloth.
Step 2: Fasten the top edge securely to the bottom baseplate of the coop or run frame.
Step 3: Lay the wire flat horizontally outwards on top of the ground surrounding the coop perimeter (creating a 2-foot wide skirt).

Step 5: Grass will grow through the wire mesh within 3 weeks, completely concealing it while permanently locking it into the root network.

When a fox or dog approaches the wall to dig, they stand on the wire apron. Unable to penetrate the steel mesh beneath their paws, they abandon the excavation.
