History & Origin
Developed in Germany in 1899 by Captain Max von Stephanitz, who sought to create the ideal herding and working dog. The breed quickly proved its versatility in military, police, and service roles.

Temperament
German Shepherds are aloof with strangers but deeply devoted to their families. Their intelligence and work ethic make them exceptional at almost any task, but they need clear leadership and socialization.
Exercise Needs

Nutrition
Feed 3-4 cups of high-quality large-breed food daily in two meals. Avoid vigorous exercise around mealtimes to reduce bloat risk. Include glucosamine for joint health.
Grooming
Brush 2-3 times weekly, daily during shedding seasons (they "blow" their coat twice a year). Bathe only when necessary to preserve natural oils.
