History & Origin
Developed in the Scottish Highlands in the mid-19th century by Lord Tweedmouth, the Golden Retriever was bred to retrieve waterfowl for hunters. The breed combines Tweed Water Spaniel, Yellow Retriever, Irish Setter, and Bloodhound lineage.

Temperament
Goldens are famously good-natured and eager to please, making them excellent family companions, service dogs, and therapy animals. They thrive on human interaction and can become anxious when left alone for long periods.
Exercise Needs
Requires 60-90 minutes of daily exercise including walks, swimming, fetch, and mental stimulation. They excel at agility, obedience, and retrieving games.

Nutrition
Feed high-quality large-breed dog food, 2-3 cups daily split into two meals. Watch portion sizes—Goldens are prone to obesity. Include omega-3 fatty acids for coat and joint health.
Grooming
Brush 2-3 times per week to manage their double coat, daily during shedding season (spring and fall). Bathe every 6-8 weeks. Regular ear cleaning is essential due to floppy ears.
