Benefits
The flesh contains antioxidants, but the safe portion is so small it rarely justifies the risk of accidental pit ingestion.
Risks
Pits, stems and leaves contain cyanide precursors. Whole cherries also pose obstruction risk. Cats and dogs have been poisoned by chewing on discarded pits.
