Figs provide fiber, potassium and antioxidants.
Risks
The fig plant (leaves, sap) contains ficin and psoralen that can irritate skin, mouth and cause vomiting. Dried figs are very high in sugar.
Symptoms to watch for
Mouth irritation, drooling, vomiting or skin rash from plant contact; diarrhea from too much dried fig.
Vet advice
Offer half a fresh fig occasionally. Skip dried figs and keep pets away from fig plants.
