To prevent severe rub sores and blanket slippage:

1. Position the Horse Squarely: Stand the horse on a flat, level concrete aisle with all four legs bearing weight evenly.
2. Anchor the Tape at Center Chest: Place the start of a flexible cloth measuring tape at the point where the base of the neck meets the center of the chest.
3. Run Across the Point of Shoulder: Pull the tape horizontally across the widest protrusion of the shoulder blade, straight along the side of the barrel, over the hip, to the exact center of the tail dock.
4. Rounding Standard: In the United States, blanket sizes are sized in 2-inch increments (e.g., 72", 74", 76", 78", 80"). If your measurement falls on an odd number (e.g., 75"), always round up to the next even size (76") to prevent shoulder constriction.
