Canine Classical Conditioning, Dopaminergic Motivation, and Emergency Recall Cues

A reliable recall—teaching a dog to come instantly when called—is the single most vital life-safety behavior in canine training. An effective recall must be conditioned as an automatic, reflexive motor response powered by high-value classical and operant conditioning.

The 3 Golden Rules of Recall Architecture:
1. The Poisoned Cue Principle: NEVER use your recall word if you are not 100% sure the dog will come, and NEVER use it to call a dog for negative events (baths, nail trims, scolding)

Designing a Specialized "Emergency Whistle Recall"

Every dog owner should condition a distinct Emergency Recall Cue (such as a two-tone Acme 210.5 working dog whistle):

• High-frequency whistles carry up to 1/2 mile in high winds with zero emotional fluctuation.
• Pair the whistle sound with an immediate "Jackpot" (a whole can of sardines or real roast beef) 5 times daily until the response is 100% reflexive.
