Prey size

Feedings / month

  • Remove uneaten prey within 24 hours — crickets can injure a moulting spider.
  • A plump, rounded abdomen means you can safely extend the interval.
  • Fresh water must always be available; tarantulas dehydrate faster than they starve.

How it works

Prey should not exceed roughly half the tarantula's diagonal leg span. Slings eat small items every 2-4 days, juveniles every 4-7 days, and adults every 7-14 days. When pre-moult signs appear — dark shiny abdomen, food refusal, heavy webbing — feeding pauses until the fangs re-darken after the moult.
